Learn focus and discipline in a fun environment!

Imagine getting home from work and knowing that your child was picked up from school, had a great workout, ate a nutritious snack, and had already finished all their homework!

Now imagine that on top of all that, your child was also learning focus, respect, and discipline, and working toward earning a black belt.

Well, that scenario is a reality for the parents whose kids are enrolled in our Karate After-School Program!

Space in the program is limited, so call us today at 718-287-5500 to find out if we have any spots open for your child.

Q: Which schools do you pick up from?
A: We pick up from PS 130, PS 139, PS 315, PS 152, and PS 217.

Q: If you don’t provide pick-up service from my child’s school, can my child still attend?
A: Absolutely! Many of our after-school students attend schools other than those listed above. As long as you have a way of dropping them off at Urban Martial Arts, they can enjoy all the benefits of our Karate After-School Program.

Q: What time can I pick up my child from Urban Martial Arts?
A: You can pick them up anytime before 6:00 PM.

Q: Will my child do karate in the After-School Program?
A: Yes! All students in our Karate After-School Program take a 30-minute karate class Monday through Thursday.

Q: Will my child earn different belts?
A: Absolutely! Students in our Karate After-School Program take the same tests and participate in the same belt promotion graduation ceremonies as the rest of our students. So your child will have the opportunity to work towards earning a black belt simply by being in our Karate After-School Program!

Q: Who provides the homework assistance?
A: Our after-school counselor Veronica manages the majority of the homework assistance. She’s a graduate of Stony Brook University and has extensive experience working with children. Carmen, our owner and general manager, is also available to assist. She’s a graduate of Columbia University.

Q: Do you offer the karate after-school program on half days and school holidays?
A: No, we don’t offer the karate after-school program on half days and school holidays.

Q: How much is the tuition for the Karate After-School Program?
A: The tuition is $300 per month, billed on the 5th of each month by automatic debit or credit card EFT.

Q: I’m not totally sure whether my child wants to do karate. Is there a way to try out the karate part first?
A: Absolutely! You can have your child take a karate orientation class first for $19.99. This will give them a chance to learn some basic techniques, and it will allow you to see how we run our karate class so that you can make an informed decision as to whether our Karate After-School Program is right for you. To schedule an orientation class, just give us a call at 718-287-5500.

Q: The Karate After-School Program sounds like a perfect fit for me! How do I get my child started?
A: Great! You can come on in and fill out some paperwork, and start by paying the pro-rated amount for the first month. (For example, if you sign up in the middle of the month, you’d pay $150, or 50% of the monthly $300.) After that, you would be billed $300 on the 5th of each month by automatic debit or credit card EFT.

Worth every penny I’ve spent and more!

My daughter used to be shy and very dependent, only blossoming around people she considered of complete trust. She is now so much more confident, being able to expose herself in front of others without fear.

This investment has literally changed the way my daughter faces life, and that is worth every penny I’ve spent and more.

Urban Martial Arts and the way Sensei Serge teaches -which is with sensibility, professionalism, and passion- has really helped us as a family, and helped my daughter discover she is preciously worthy.

It’s one of the best things that has ever happened to my son!

I was really quite surprised when my 10-year-old son told me he wanted to do karate. But I do know this; it’s one of the best things that has ever happened to him.

I found Urban Martial Arts by looking for Karate Schools online. It became immediately clear to me that UMA puts the value of community first. I could see it in the eyes and enthusiasm of everyone in the center.

There are teachers but some are special. Sensei Serge Sognonvi, leads young people with a combination of professionalism and joy that I want my young son to discover.

We liked it so much my husband signed up too!

My son has been going to Urban Martial Arts for about two years. The staff is very patient and encouraging. The focus is not only on the physical aspect of the martial arts but on discipline as well.

We liked it so much that my husband has signed up as a member as well!

— Regina S, Brooklyn NY

A friendly environment for families of all backgrounds!

I enrolled my child at Urban Martial Arts because he is stubborn and hard-headed. After starting martial arts training, he’s starting to listen more and more.

I really enjoy watching Sensei Serge interact with the children, giving them valuable lessons they can use outside the dojo.

I also like the fact that he interacts with the parents in addition to the students, creating a friendly environment suitable for families of various backgrounds and cultures.

— William, Brooklyn NY

They’ll embrace you as family!

There are many martial schools located in the Brooklyn section of NY. But not many will embrace you as family.

Urban Martial Arts is successfully encouraging my 11-year-old son and guiding him to become the young man he is growing up to be. And the school has turned my sometimes soft-spoken and shy 5-year-old daughter into a confident and strong little dragon!
